FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Ask our

What is Integrated Yard Logistics?

Integrated yard logistics refers to the coordinated management of all yard-related activities, including trailer spotting, shuttling, gate operations, equipment rental and management, technology enablement, and network operations, all under a unified operational strategy.

Instead of treating each component (people, process, equipment, and technology) as a silo, integrated yard logistics connects them into a single, data-driven workflow synchronized with warehouse and transportation operations.

What is a Yard Operating System?
A yard operating system is an operational framework that brings all the core components required to effectively orchestrate people, processes, and equipment through technology-enabled insights and execution. It enhances yard throughput at the site level and optimizes operations across the entire network.
What's the difference between a Yard Operating System (YOS) and a Yard Management System (YMS)?

A Yard Operating System is an operational framework designed to deliver optimized and sustainable operations at a site or across the distribution network for a shipper. It includes multiple core components that deliver value at the intersection of operations, processes, and technology.

Yard Management Systems are software solutions that deliver value depending on the capabilities available and their adoption. A YMS is a small component of a Yard Operating System.

When deployed in isolation, these software solutions fail to address key issues within yard operations because of the disconnect between the real problems and the operations.

Why is effectively managing yard operations critical in the supply chain?

For years, enterprise shippers have accepted underperforming yard operations as the norm, outsourcing spotting and shuttling services with limited oversight and assuming inconsistent performance was simply part of the deal. This has led to widespread inefficiencies: high turnover, unreliable service, poor visibility, and rising costs.

Many operational leaders face the same challenges:

• Labor shortages and high attrition
• Unaccountable or reactive vendors
• Safety issues that go unresolved
• Fragmented operations with no enterprise-wide coordination
• Limited visibility into day-to-day performance

In response, some organizations have turned to yard management technology. But software alone isn’t enough. Without the right people, processes, and equipment in place, even the best tech cannot solve fundamental issues or scale effectively across the network.

Ultimately, effective yard management is critical because it exposes and resolves inefficiencies that directly impact cost, service quality, safety, and sustainability. In today’s high-pressure supply chain environment, accepting the status quo is no longer an option.

How is YMX different from legacy yard providers?

YMX is redefining enterprise yard operations by focusing on solving root problems, rather than just supplying labor, equipment, or technology.

YMX unifies people, processes, equipment, and technology into a single, comprehensive yard operating model, delivering reliable, optimized, and sustainable enteprise yard operations.

What is the YMX Operating System (YMX OS)?

Every YMX operation is powered by YMX OS. This proprietary logistics framework  consolidates fragmented processes and aligns core operational elements to deliver cohesive and standardized operations at a single facility or across your network:

• Workforce management
• Asset utilization
• Process optimization
• Technology integration
• Data insights
• Safety and compliance
• Sustainability
• Network-wide scalability
Does YMX offer a Yard Management System (YMS)?

Yes, however, it is only available with the purchase of YMX services. It is part of YMX OS and serves as a layer that enables the YMX team to manage our operations and collect the data necessary for continuous improvement.

Integration with existing YMS, WMS, TMS< or any other supply chain systems is also available.

Does YMX operate diesel or EV yard trucks?
Both. YMX tailors each site’s truck configuration to operational goals. YMX deploys both diesel and electric vehicles depending on efficiency, cost, and sustainability targets.

Through YMX's collaboration with
industry-leading OEMs, YMX helps shippers cut emissions and operating costs while maintaining performance.

For yard truck EVs, fast-charging plug-n-play infrastructure is included to ensure zero disruption of your operations and a fast go-live.
